Busy…

It’s been a busy week to say the least. Monday night we went to the awards ceremony for DCFD. JR has received an award for the past 2 years. This year was for responding to the June 22, 2009 metro train crash. It cut our anniversary evening short but such is life. Tragedy doesn’t care about anniversaries and in hindsight I am glad he went. They played a real nice video to recap the incident, it is truly amazing what has to be done in those circumstances.

Tuesday night we went to Nicki’s so the kids could play on Mikayla’s swing set. Ryan has been dying to get over there since the weekend. It’s not like they don’t have plenty of play equipment themselves, I guess it is the newness factor:) We were over there until almost 8 so baths and bed ended the night.

Last night, JR and I worked on cleaning up our backyard. I HATE our back yard and have ever since we moved into this house. There isn’t a level spot to be found which is why we had to construct a play area that was flat. Leaves gather everywhere and the yard had accumulated toys that the kids don’t play with anymore. So we made a big trash pile, cleaned up what was left of the leaves, and JR cut the grass. He is attempting to grade the yard so more of it is level. We’ll see how that goes. Last he spread the bug killer in the yard. The mosquitoes are so bad and Ryan especially gets eaten the worst. Hopefully we will be bug free!

The kids played outside the whole time stopping for dinner in between. Soon they saw Brynn and Blake from across the street outside so off they went. This was AFTER they had been cleaned up in the shower. Ryan was running around in his undies and beloved crocodile dock t-shirt while Lance had on a wife beater and shorts. They were barefooted of course and having the time of their lives catching fireflies. The fact that their feet were turning black as the road didn't seem to matter. They were having a blast and it was so cute to see how something as simple as chasing lightning bugs was entertaining. To be a kid again:)

This one was vanilla birthday cake with chocolate frosting. Mom had red velvet with cream cheese frosting and JR had chocolate peanut butter chip with peanut butter frosting. They were little pieces of heaven!!!

Here’s to going into a 3 day weekend, Hip Hip Hooray!!!!!
