Lance and Ryan participated in the annual state TKD competition yesterday. Lance has been competing for 2 years but this was a first state tournament for Ryan.
They both received medals for sparring:) Lance came in second…..it was such a close match. He did get a point deduction for a face kick though:( Had it landed properly it would have been a +2!!! Oh well…it happens. He didn’t place in forms this year but his form is amazing! The officiating is so subjective that it is really difficult when the officials mood dictates the winner sometimes. It’s a learning experience though.
Lance is going to compete in 2 more tournaments over the next couple months and then we are Nationals bound for him. Ryan will wait a while longer, he is still young and needs more time before he is ready for the bigger tournaments.

Perfect kick!!

match for first place, I love Mr. Ames’s face here….he is a lead official and also an instructor at our school. He is extremely fair but it sure looks like he wants Lance’s kick to score:) Lance is on the left.
JR coaching. Lance is winning at this point….he looks proud of himself:)
Second place in his division!!
3rd place sparring:)
Lance and his best buddy Jacob, Way to go boys!!
